Masking and Dyslexia

I can't even begin how many times I read on online forms that Dyslexics do not mask.

While these individuals create this statement as fact, they offer no credentials to make the readers comprehend where their knowledge comes from.

So, here is the facts from someone who has done extensive research on the topic of dyslexia - YES, dyslexics mask!

When others look at dyslexia as a learning issue, they question how could someone mask? Well, they will make comments that they are really tired and that is why they are struggling with pronunciation, fluency, word recall, etc. It is not that dyslexics do not mask, the real focus is that those who think that those with dyslexia are just poor readers.

Dyslexia influences the dyslexic's life beyond language and when you bring the topic of it outside of educational psychology you discover that it impacts emotions, memory, organization, physical pain perception, and so much more.

Dyslexia is not a synonym for reading issues. It is a neurodiverse profile that needs to be discussed more fully.
